Tips for Choosing Groomsmen Attire

January 7th, 2012

Now although you have been quite busy picking out your bridesmaids’ attire and what looks best on each one, you can’t forget about the men in your bridal party! You’d be surprised this can take just as much thought and although many groomsmen probably think a tux and tie will do, here are a few more options to think about.

Just how formal is your affair? For a more casual setting like the beach or really any type of outdoor wedding it is best to ditch the tux and go with a more casual selection. Dress pants, a collared shirt/sweater vest and a tie would do a great job and won’t make your groomsmen uncomfortable. Depending on your theme, khaki pants could also replace the traditional black pant and as for the tie that is your choice as well if you want to keep it a part of the attire. Adding some fun touches to their footwear could include some casual kicks or funky colors that match your bridesmaids and sandals or even going barefoot could do the trick if you’re having a beach theme.

What’s your color scheme? Black and white is very traditional but if you want to twist things up a bit you can match their dress shirt, vest or tie with your wedding colors. There’s no rule book saying groomsmen need to wear a white shirt and I personally find that a black shirt looks very nice with a tie matching the bridesmaids’ dresses. If your bridesmaids are not wearing the same color the groomsman that is walking her down the aisle should wear some kind of matching attire with her. This gives your bridal party a really nice coordinated look and makes your wedding colors go throughout the wedding besides just your bridesmaids wearing them.

When to go shopping? If you’re planning on all your groomsmen having coordinated attire then having a group shopping trip is really your best option. Yes I know, it’s very hard to get one man to go shopping, it’ll be a little difficult to get all your groomsmen together but even if you do a few at a time this can save you many headaches in the future. Another great idea is to tell your groomsmen to go the store you’ve decided on buying from anytime during that week they’re available and tell customer service what wedding they’re in. Many stores will keep a list of what you had decided on and all your groomsmen will need to do is get measured and pick their outfit up when it’s ready. Now what could go wrong with that?!

Should Bridesmaids Pay For Their Dresses?

December 31st, 2011

Many times your bridesmaids could be family members or just great friends but after choosing your bridesmaids when is the right time to decide about dress expenses? Should you fork out the money for all their dresses or is it up to them to cover the costs? Personally I cannot actually answer that question due to the fact each bride-to-be reading this article will be having different situations during their wedding process. However, here are a few tips to guide you in the decision of whether your bridesmaid should pay for their own dress or it’s entirely up to you.

Place a Budget You and your bridesmaid can get together before dress shopping and decide on how much money each of them could put towards the dress. Create a budget and when you decide on what dresses you find most suitable for your wedding each of your bridesmaids will pay the amount that was decided on and if the dress exceeds that amount you should put in the rest of the money.

Decide If the Dress Is Reusable How many times have you heard brides tell their bridesmaids they can shorten their dress and wear it again? Often times no bridesmaid will actually go to the lengths of taking their dress to a tailor and having it altered and it eventually collects dust in their closet. Decide if your bridesmaids can actually wear their dress again and if you all agree the chosen dress will not get much use and is just for the wedding then you should probably cover the costs.

Ask Your Bridesmaids If you have bridesmaids that have previously had a wedding ask them what they did. They will understand your concerns and could even give you some tips on where to purchase discounted gowns as well as how they budgeted their expenses. Let your bridesmaid get involved and help you out during these stressful planning months they will feel appreciated and will know that you appreciate their input.

Short Bridesmaid Dresses, Are They Acceptable?

December 24th, 2011

Let your girls show off some skin without crossing that too-provocative line. They’ll thank you later for being able to show off one of their great assets. Although it is your wedding it is best to discuss what the majority of your bridesmaids would prefer. Not every dress is going to look flattering on each one of your special ladies but it’s considerate to ask what they would feel most comfortable in. After all, you are most likely going to be making the purchase for their dresses so try and get the most from your money and make it so they can at least wear the dress again. You want your V.I.P crew to look good because don’t forget they’re going to be in most of your wedding photos as well.

Short bridesmaid dresses have really been taking a ride in the wedding industry for a while and looks like they’re here to stay! There is plenty of a variety for the length you are looking for and the color scheme to match your wedding theme in the bridal party section.

Be a little practical and if you plan on hosting a Winter wedding skip out on the cocktail length. (It’s not too great to have your V.I.P sporting blue lips in your wedding photos.) However, if you plan on tying the knot during the Spring or Summer months you can find plenty of discounted shorter-length dresses during the wintertime since they are not as in demand then.
